Jewelry and Metals Alumna brings her work to Birmingham Art Show
May 16, 2017
Collyn DeBano is bringing her art to the Annual Art Birmingham Show event, on May 13–14, at Shain Park.
DeBano, an Oakland Township artist, is the founder and owner of Tree Trunk Arts, a company in which she uses pieces of nature to create here jewelry.
For Collyn, however, nature is not just the inspiration. Nature is the art form. While a student at GVSU, she started investigating which found artifacts she could use in the casting process and found out that natural elements work really well. She now casts leaves, seeds and tree bark into wearable jewelry, immortalizing a piece of nature. Her artist statement says:
Nature speaks to us all.
The trees that line our streets, the plants we fill our windowsills with, the blooms we decorate our tables with. The textures and forms of nature, that are so much a part of our everyday lives constantly inspire me. Through the process of casting, I have found a way to preserve them forever and allow us to wear the moments of nature we love. Over the last 8 years I have been collecting and casting the seeds and twigs that catch my eye and turning them into jewelry to wear everyday.
If the beauty of nature is all around us, why not wear it?
And this year people will get to see all her wonderful pieces at the Annual Art Birmingham show. In this year's event, more than 150 juried artists will present all forms of art, from painting to fibers and mixed media pieces. And jewelry, of course.
