Morgan Hayden, Visual Studies major, becomes one of the first Library Scholars at GVSU
August 03, 2017
Senior Visual Studies major Morgan Hayden gave a presentation on her work as a Library Scholar as part of the Student Scholar Showcase on August 1st, 2017. The presentation was entitled "alternative databases funded by alternative facts; what else is a poem but an alternative fact?" Morgan was one of three students selected for this inaugural year of this innovative program organized by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship and the Mary Idema Pew Library. Library Scholars work throughout the summer delving deeply into self-directed research with the support of a GVSU Librarian.
Morgan embedded herself into the spaces and practices of the library much in the mode of Mierle Laderman Ukeles, producing poems, texts, performances, and videos. She distributed copies of a zine entitled "cataloguing the library" that she made documenting her residency in the Library. Her presentation included images from performances and a short performance of texts from the zine.
