Visual Resource Center (VRC)
The purpose of the Visual Resources Center (VRC) is to support student learning & faculty teaching in the Department of Visual & Media Arts and the GVSU community. This includes the constant improvement and development of visual resources.
Resources & Opportunities
Documentation Stations
Documentation stations are available for use by VMA Students, Faculty & Staff in the VRC, the set ups are geared for smaller scale 3D and 2D based works.
Stations Include: LED 3D cube studio approx. 36x36 in with 6 backdrop variations, DSLR Camera to be used in VRC only, SD Card to be used in VRC only, LED copy stand, High resolution scanner, iMac, Adobe Editing software, expertise/guidance on file editing & management
If you are interested in using the stations, please email the Curator of Visual Resources and the stations can be reserved for use and/or sign up on the sheet just outside the VRC door at 1409 CAC. There is a short training that each user needs to complete to ensure high-quality results and safety of the equipment.
Exhibition & Event Resources
Resources are available in the VRC for use within the VMA Department to support events that are departmental, emphasis area or course events. These include signage stands, clean workspace to prep promotional materials, paper cutter, cutting mat and basic hand tools (tape measure, levels, paintbrushes, hammer, etc.). These can be used by current students, faculty and staff hosting events, and must be returned in good condition. Vinyl tutorials are available upon request.
Professional Practices
The VRC offers resources on a wide range of professional practices within the visual & media arts disciplines. Books, readings & samples are available to provide advice on resume construction, exhibition formats, call for entry resources, and business related practices of being a creative professional. These are available for check-out by current VMA students, faculty & staff. Additionally, workshops have been held in the VRC focused on professional practices, financial literacy and special topics like navigating social media.
Padnos Student Gallery
The Stuart B. and Barbara H. Padnos Student Gallery is a unique venue on the Grand Valley State University Allendale Campus. Its primary function is to offer students the opportunity to organize and execute exhibitions of their own. In the recent past, students have organized, juried and installed various exhibitions and events for a variety of audiences. The Gallery space is regularly programmed with BFA thesis shows and showcased projects from individual classes. The Padnos Student Gallery schedule, programming and and events are managed by the Curator of Visual Resources.

Through the Stuart B. & Barbara H. Padnos Student Gallery Guest Artist Program within the Department of Visual & Media Arts, Students, Faculty & Staff are directly connected with professional artists.
Digital Print Shop
The Digital Print Shop is operated by student print technicians. It is open during the regular school year and not open in the summer. During the school year, open hours vary with student worker schedules. Visit the Digital Print Shop Website, see current hours, and options for printing.
