For Fall 2024, the Writing Center is launching a new program this fall called Jumpstart. The goal is to have peer writing consultants share their favorite writing strategies, resources, and advice with fellow students. Beginning Friday September 20^th at 3:30pm (in LOH 120). Each week will cover a different topic aimed at helping students in their writing courses, descriptions below.

While the events are open to all, they are very much aimed at the concerns of first-year writing students. No sign up required to attend, just come to Lake Ontario Hall 120 on Friday at 3:30pm, help yourself to free donuts/coffee, and learn and engage with fellow GVSU students.

Six weeks of workshops in Fall 2024 - Fridays at 3:30pm in Lake Ontario Hall 120

Week One (Sept 20) - What am I being asked to do exactly? - Understanding your writing assignment and picking a topic you actually want to write about

Week Two (Sept 27) - The blank page is your friend, not your enemy - Brainstorming, overcoming writer’s block, and organizing your ideas 

Week Three (Oct 4)  - What are other people saying? - Library research tips, finding appropriate sources, and understanding what makes sources reputable

Week Four (Oct 11) - I have a draft, now what? - Revision techniques, resources, and understanding your own writing process (AKA procrastination is actually useful)

Week Five (Oct 18) - You and your computer - tips for organizing files, exporting, formatting and making better digital habits

Week Six (Oct 25) - Now you want me to talk about it? Converting papers into presentations
