New Article Published in Frontiers in Microbiology
September 08, 2015
Current and Past Biddanda lab members came together to author an article that was recently published in the Journal: Frontiers in Microbiology. The paper combines several studies of motility in cyanobacterial filaments that form mats on the bottom of sinkholes of Lake Huron. For their size, the filaments are relatively fast moving and can bury falling debris within hours to days. This motility likely serves as a mechanism to maximize their ability to get sunlight for photosynthesis, and concurrently buries the carbon from falling plankton.
