Craig Hulst has taught courses in first-year writing and writing in the disciplines. His research has focused on effectively teaching first-year writing, such as using grammar as a rhetorical tool, multimodal projects submitted for holistic portfolio grading, and directed self-placement. He has also contributed to the study of Chinese literature in English translation. His work has appeared in in Writing Spaces, Multimodal Composition, and Chinese Literature and Culture, and he has presented his work at the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the Writing Program Administrators Conference, and the Michigan Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters.
