Julia R. Mason has been teaching since 2012, beginning her affiliate role in the GVSU Writing Department in 2019. She earned her Masters of English Language and Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 2011. Her teaching career includes a vast array of linguistics and composition courses including ESL Composition, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Phonetics, and First Year Writing. She was also honored to teach three semesters of First Year Writing at the Handlon Correctional Facility for the Calvin Prison Initiative. Julia also has experience in publishing and non-profit foundation work. She currently serves as an affiliate representative to both the university Affiliate Faculty Advisory Committee and the University Academic Senate. In her free time, she loves singing, gardening, traveling, cooking, reading, kayaking, and racing her car in autocross events.
