Julie White has taught first-year writers for almost three decades at GVSU and works to build a strong learning community in her classroom, helping students to feel comfortable and safe while working collaboratively.  Julie’s research background is in Whitmanic studies and American Transcendentalism, and her publications can be found in Walt Whitman: An EncyclopediaIn Our Own Words: A Journal about WomenMichigan Academician, and American Transcendental Quarterly.  When she is not in the classroom or conducting research, Julie enjoys reading, gardening, canning, spending time with her family, and being outdoors on her farm.
