Susan Laidlaw-McCreery has taught courses in first-year writing at GVSU for almost 20 years, and before that nature writing at Colorado State University. Her favorite words to hear are “I actually enjoyed writing this semester” and strives to have students think about their writing as acts of social engagement, not assignments to fulfill. Her essays have been published in Fresh Water: Women Writing on the Great Lakes and PEEC Seasons. 

In 2018, Susan received the Teaching Excellence Award for Affiliate Faculty.
