Confidentiality
All Counseling Center Services Are Confidential
All information in your University Counseling Center record will remain confidential, within the law. GVSU faculty, staff, and students will not have access to your record. You will receive more information about the University Counseling Center's confidentiality policy on your first visit.
Confidentiality is Assured Except in the Following Situations:
- You authorize the Counseling Center to release records or other information to individuals of your choosing. This may be done only with your expressed written consent.
- Under ethical and legal requirements, your therapist may break confidentiality in the event of clear and imminent danger to yourself or another person.
- The law requires that therapists disclose information regarding child or elder abuse or neglect.
- In certain legal proceedings, confidential information may be disclosed by court order. This is a rare occurrence and would not happen without your knowledge.
