Students, faculty and staff members from the College of Education and College of Community and Public Service showed their Laker Effect by decorating thousands of brown paper bags for Kids' Food Basket of Grand Rapids.
This is the second year members from the two colleges held a friendly competition during the month of September. A total of 7,254 lunch bags were decorated, adding a touch of love for the area elementary school children who will benefit from a sack supper.
Kids' Food Basket provides a dinner meal to more than 6,000 elementary students each weekday in the Grand Rapids area.
COE students, faculty and staff members decorated 3,871 bags, and those from CCPS decorated 3,383 bags. A "loose change" drive was also held; $284.50 in donations was collected.
Kids' Food Basket serves nearly 7,500 kids in greater Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Holland. Sack suppers include a well-balanced meal that is distributed to students at school and then taken home.
