About the Fitness, Skill, & Activity (FIT) Classes

About FIT

Fitness, Skill, and Activity (FIT) classes provide students with the skills, content knowledge, and confidence to pursue lifelong physical activity.  Taking a FIT class helps students pursue Physical Literacy.  Each FIT class has course objectives and assessments that hold students accountable for learning just like any other academic class offered at GVSU. Our FIT Faculty are selected based on their content expertise, certifications, and qualifications in order to provide a high quality learning environment for all students.  All of our instructors meet qualification standards set by the Higher Learning Commission.  FIT classes are taken to earn academic credit that counts toward graduation.

The FIT courses offer experiential learning for a wide array of physical activities to meet individual student interest.  Academic content is taught  through active engagement in class and assessed through a variety of methods.  Attendance and participation is key to success in all FIT classes. Students can develop skills, try an activity for the first time, or participate in favorite fitness pursuits. Our goal is to teach and coach students as they develop physical literacy to sustain a physically active lifestyle.
