Alan W. McEvoy, '70
Along with teaching sociology at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, Alan McEvoy, ‘70, has dedicated his life to ending violence in schools, homes, and communities. He is the author of several books and articles that confront issues like rape, abuse, gangs, bullying, and suicide.
Having been credited with forming Safe School Coalition, a national organization that promotes safety in schools and communities, McEvoy is also the organization’s current president. He has served on advisory boards and as chair of numerous organizations including the International Conference on Sexual Assault and Harassment on Campus, the Hamilton Fish National Institute on School and Community Violence, the National Center for Hate Crime Prevention, and the National Rape and Sexual Assault Prevention Project.
McEvoy’s published works include coauthoring several guides for educators, family, and friends on how to confront violence as well as several articles on the same subject. His work has earned him recognition as he is often requested to conduct workshops on the topics of violence prevention in schools and communities.
After graduating Grand Valley State University with a B.A. in sociology, McEvoy earned both his master’s and doctorate degrees in Sociology from Western Michigan University.
He currently lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
