Nicholas Kokx, '72
Pediatrician Nicholas Kokx, ’72, earned his bachelor of
science from Grand Valley State University and his doctorate in
medicine from Michigan State University. After completing
residencies in psychiatry in Traverse City and pediatrics in Denver
and Grand Rapids, Kokx opened his practice, Kent Pediatrics, in
1979. Kokx teaches medicine at Michigan State University where he
received the House Staff Teacher of the Year award two years in a
row. In addition, Kokx has been awarded with the Leo J. Kenny Award
from Butterworth Hospital.
In his career, Kokx has served on the boards for
Butterworth Hospital, West Michigan Health Partners, and currently
Priority Health. As a philanthropic member of the community, he has
volunteered for St. John’s Home, Habitat for Humanity, and Almond Leaf
Society where he performed health screens for Jamaican citizens. He
continues to serve his community through Catholic Social Services
where he volunteers in the pediatric care unit for neglected and
abused children. He also volunteers for God’s Kitchen, Michigan
Science Olympiad, St. Jude’s School fundraising events, and has
presented AIDS education for local schools.
His research in
Streptococcal Perianal disease was published in Pediatrics in 1987. He
currently lives in Comstock Park.
