Carl Simpson, '79

After his graduation with a B.S. in biomedical sciences, Carl Simpson, ’79 continued his education at Wayne State University to earn his doctor of medicine degree. Immediately following his graduation in 1983, Simpson entered active duty in the US Air Force Medical Corps.
 
During his 20 year service, Simpson was chief of flight medicine at the Blytheville US Air Force Hospital and chief of aerospace medicine at the Spangdahlem US Air Force Clinic in West Germany. He received special training in combat operations, preventative medicine, and flying operations and earned the promotion to Major in 1989.
 
Simpson is the author of Visually Evoked Spatial Disorientation in a Visual Simulator and co-author of The Giant Hand Phenomenon. He has been honored with the USAF Achievement Medal, USAF Commendation Medal, and the United States Air Force in Europe’s Flight Surgeon of the Year Award.
 
He is currently a practicing physician and consultant at Churchill Medical of Texas in San Antonio.
