Lawrence Austin, '74
Lawrence Austin, ’74 graduated from Grand Valley State University
with a bachelor’s of science in Geology. The following, he accepted a
position as a geologist at Williams & Works, Inc. in Grand Rapids
where he stayed until 1982. Austin then became president of Aqua-Tech
Consultants, Inc. who offers geological and hydrogeological consulting
services to individuals, commercial and industrial firms, and
governmental institutions.
During this time, Austin has
taught geology as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University and
Grand Valley State University. He was also the chief consulting
scientist for a Southwest Michigan Groundwater Survey
In
addition to his work for Aqua-Tech, Austin is also chairperson for the
American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). He started his
involvement with AIPG in 1982 when he became a Certified Professional
Geologist and has also served as Secretary-Treasurer and as
the National Advisory Board Representative for the organization.
In his lifetimes, Austin has been awarded such honors as the
Martin Van Couvering Memorial Award, AIPG Presidential Certificate of
Merit, and Michigan Section Certificate of Recognition. Austin and his
wife, Mary have been Michigan Licensed Foster Parents since 2000 and
have two children of their own. The couple lives in Grand Rapids.
