Larry Fegel, '73

Starting his career in education with Blandford Nature Center and the Grand Rapids and Rockford Public Schools Larry Fegel, ’73 is now affiliate professor of biology at Grand Valley State University. After earning his B.S in earth science, Fegel continued his education at Michigan State University where he earned his masters of science in 1979.
 
Throughout his career, Fegel has been awarded with such honors as Excellence in Environmental Education from the Environmental Advocacy Council and West Michigan Environmental Action Council’s Outstanding Environmental Educator Award. In addition to teaching, Fegel was the science curriculum supervisor and curriculum director for Grand Rapids Public Schools and has been involved with science curriculum development and professional staff development for instructors in numerous other schools districts.
 
Fegel currently serves on the advisory board for Blandford Nature Center and works with the Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland. He retired an assistant superintendent at West Ottawa Public Schools.
 
He and his wife Mary Kay live in Holland. The couple has four children.
