Christopher Lewis, '92

Christopher W. Lewis is the Alumni Service Award Recipient, 2013. He has been contributing to Grand Valley State University for more than 20 years by giving his time and financial support. He received his Criminal Justice degree in 1992, and also has a Juris Doctorate from Cooley Law School, where he won three merit awards for academic excellence.

Professionally, Chris worked for the Michigan Department of State Police from 1979 until his retirement in 2007. He has more than nine years of experience in human resources management, including state and municipal government. He is currently the Human Resources Manager at the largest Ryder Transportation and Logistics branch in Lansing, Michigan.

Chris has been an enthusiastic volunteer leader for several decades. He was a member of the GVSU Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2006 until 2011, during which time he served as the chair of the Awards and Nominating Committee and helped to facilitate the selection of the Distinguished Alumni, Outstanding Educator, Young Alumni and Service Awards. He has also volunteered at dozens of signature alumni events including GradFest, Freshmen Move-In, the WGVU pledge drive and Commencement.

A former Laker football player, Chris is active in the Football Alumni Association Chapter and contributes to the Football Alumni Endowment Fund to ensure the success of future players. He is an avid Laker football fan and attends football games at home and on the road.

Additionally, Chris has participated in many Michigan crime prevention organizations, such as Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, D.A.R.E., and the Youth Violence Prevention Coalition.

Chris has five children and lives in Mason, Michigan with his wife, Diane.
