Doug VanderJagt, '92

Doug VanderJagt has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Rockford Public Schools for the past three years. Prior to his current position, VanderJagt served as a building-level administrator for the district – four years as Assistant Principal of the Rockford High School Freshman Center and then seven years as the building’s Principal. He began his professional career teaching and coaching in the East Grand Rapids Public School system for 11 years.

VanderJagt earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Grand Valley State University in 1992. He received a master’s degree and doctorate from Western Michigan University. He has served as an adjunct professor for Grand Valley since 2013, instructing College of Education graduate students through an essential personnel administration course.

Despite his many professional responsibilities, VanderJagt finds the time to give back to Grand Valley as an active board member of the Swimming & Diving Alumni Chapter. He also regularly volunteers for the College of Education Alumni Association’s Roundtable Discussions. At these events, current education students are given the opportunity to interact with and learn from local education professionals on a variety of topics. He has volunteered at Future Alumni Association events, and provides continuous financial support to the university.

In 2017, VanderJagt received the Alumni Service Award. The honor is awarded to an alumnus who has demonstrated outstanding service to the university and the Alumni Association. The awardee is selected by GVSU Alumni Relations staff. The award is presented at the annual Volunteer Celebration in May.
