1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
Since graduating from Grand Valley State University in 2008, my
journey has been an exciting blend of education, leadership, and
advocacy. I earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from
Auburn University and pursued executive leadership training from both
Oxford and Harvard. My career has allowed me to serve in C-Suite
leadership roles and now as a consultant and coach, supporting
organizations in creating more inclusive environments. I've had the
honor of being recognized for my work through awards like the Memphis
Business Journal’s Super Woman in Business and the Shelby County Board
of Commissioners Resolution. My commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion has taken me across the country—and now I’m back at Notre
Dame for a second master’s degree, continuing my lifelong learning journey.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
One of my favorite memories from Grand Valley is the sense of
community I found through my involvement in various student
organizations. Being part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
(Nu Theta Chapter), serving as the 2007-08 President of the NPHC, and
joining the Order of Omega Honor Society gave me the opportunity to
build lifelong connections. I also enjoyed singing with the Voices of
GVSU Gospel Choir, mentoring through Positive Influence, and working
as a Laker Leadership Intern. These experiences shaped my leadership
journey and reinforced my passion for creating inclusive spaces.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is, "Success is
not just about where you end up, but about who you lift along the
way." This reminder has guided me throughout my career. It’s easy
to get caught up in personal goals and achievements, but true
leadership is about bringing others along with you.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Transformative, empowering and inspiring.
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I’m committed to creating a world where everyone, regardless of
background, feels seen, valued, and heard. Through my work in
diversity, equity, and inclusion, I hope to empower leaders to build
cultures where individuals can thrive. My goal is to make sustainable
change that not only impacts the workplace but also communities, so
that every person can reach their full potential.
