Recovery Meetings at GVSU
About Recovery Meetings:
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a 12-step program for individuals who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common issues and help others recover from an alcohol problem. Per AA, the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families (ACA) is a program for individuals who grew up in alcoholic/drug addicted or otherwise dysfunctional home. Members discover how childhood affected them in the past and influences their present, taking steps to move on and cope with current relationships in a healthy manner.
SMART Recovery is a program that uses science and self-empowerment to help people overcome any harmful addictive behavior. SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training and uses a 4 point program that helps people find the power to change within themselves. Meetings are open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Marijuana Anonymous (MA) uses the basic 12 Steps, founded by AA, but is focused entirely on group members' shared problem with marijuana or cannabis addiction. Group members come together to share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they may move toward recovery. Per MA, the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop marijuana use. Meetings are open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
