Description
July 29, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
– Gallery open with
reception beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Join us for a fun, casual afternoon of jazz inspired by the paintings of Mathias J. Alten as well as classical music from the painter’s lifetime.
This concert is being organized by Linda Boozer Vasilaki, great granddaughter of Alten himself! Performers include Linda, her husband Yuri, and a bevy of her friends.
Join us for light refreshments at 3:30 p.m. The program will open at 4:00 p.m. with a vocal performance by Dale Schriemer, baritone, and Gabriel Fauré's Après un Rêve, performed by Yuri Vasilaki, former principal viola of GR Symphony/DeVos String Quartet, on viola.
We will then feature Alten Skies, an original jazz composition by Ric Troll, performed by Troll himself playing guitar, along with David DeVos on bass, Dave Martin on vibraphone, Patrick Foley and William Patterson on violin.
This performance will take place in the Hager-Lubbers Exhibition Hall, immediately outside the first floor gallery (room 103 E). The doors to the gallery will be open before, during, and after the performance so that listeners can enjoy the combination of visual and musical inspiration.
After the concert, please join us for more light classical music from Alten’s lifetime to accompany your viewing in the second floor gallery (room 202 E), performed by violists Dr. Linda Vasilaki, Yuri Vasilaki, and Penny Meitz; violinist, Bill Patterson and Patrick Foley, and pianist, Brendan Hollins.
