Thursday, October 4 to Friday, November 2, 2012 - Forged in
Metal: Deshi/Shisyou Mentee/Mentor was a showcase of jewelry and
metalsmithing work from a selected group of Japanese students and
their mentors from Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry, Tokyo. This
inspiring exhibition was curated by Renee Zettle-Sterling, Associate
Professor of Art and Design from Grand Valley State University, and
James Bove, Associate Professor of Art at California University of
Pennsylvania. Forged in Metal will shed light on a trusted and
profound relationship whose impact is felt for a lifetime: the
mentee/mentor relationship.
Putting It All Together:A Collaboration Between Ann Baddeley Keister, Patricia Nelson and Patricia Clark (8 Photos)
Friday, August 24 –Friday, September 21, 2012 - Contemporary, mixed-media textile collage and jewelry collaborations by artists Ann Baddeley Keister and Patricia Nelson was showcased. The exhibition also included written work by Patricia Clark, Grand Valley State University Poet-in-Residence and Professor of Writing. Baddeley Keister is Associate Professor of Art at Grand Valley State University and Nelson is Professor of Art in Metalwork at Ball State University in Indiana.

Grand Valley Chamber Players Monday, September 19, 2011, 3 p.m. The program featured Tafelmusik I - Quartet in G Minor and Tafelmusik II - Quartet in D Minor by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) and Coffee Cantate by Johann Sebastian Bach(1685-1750). Performing were Christopher Kantner, flute; Marlen Vavrikova, oboe; John Clapp, bassoon; Greg Crowell, harpsichord; Gregory Maytan, violin; Pablo Mahave-Veglia, cello; Kathryn Stieler, soprano.
American Cuisine: New Paintings by Tim Fisher (6 Photos)
Opening reception: September 8, 5-7 p.m. "The last few years, I've been making paintings of food and people in my culturally diverse, working class, west side Grand Rapids neighborhood. The subject of each portrait is the primary or delegated household cook and the materials needed to prepare a dish that exemplifies their identity. The gender, presented cuisine, kitchen setting, various ingredients and presentation all signify actual or desired aspects of class, cultural background, aspects of assimilation, economic status and even beliefs system. Each painting incorporates the dishes ingredients weights and measures (still life), cooking locale (space), the individuals representation (portrait), and together these reflect their history and culture(s). All together, the paintings celebrate the subjects ethnic and economic position and allow the viewer to actively connect, and if desired, decode and commune with the subject beyond passively observing the image as a likeness of the subject."

Opening Reception: Thursday, March 17, 2011 Photographic essays by GVSU faculty artists Dellas Henke, Stanley Krohmer and Anthony Thompson, explored the beauty and complexity of the landscape, the effects of erosion and our complex relationship to the Allendale Campus Ravines. Complimenting the exhibit was work in a variety of media by students and additional faculty. Held in conjunction with Grand Valley's 50th Anniversary.
