An inclusive and equitable community is one of Grand Valley's shared values and the university is committed to fostering and sustaining a sense of belonging, promoting diversity and respect, and addressing systemic issues that impact students, especially for those who have been historically excluded from higher education.
One example is our Historically Black College/University (HBCU)/Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Pipeline Consortium. The collaboration between Grand Valley and HBCUs and HSIs creates greater opportunities for students from those schools to get graduate degrees leading to meaningful careers while simultaneously expanding talent pipelines in West Michigan.
GVSU offers several articulated course pathways between our HBCU and HSI partners for students to find a degree that fits their academic goals.

They are accomplished scholars who offer the kind of expertise that will distinguish your learning experience. Besides being in the classroom with you day in and day out, what sets them apart is how much they love to teach. They are here for you. That kind of commitment means they’ll focus on your individual needs, empower you, and guide you through real-world research opportunities.

Then, depending on their major, students may find more of their classes take place downtown. University housing is available in Allendale and downtown and all students have convenient access to all the cultural, social, entertainment, and internship or employment opportunities that Grand Rapids provides.
Grand Valley's Allendale campus features deep, wooded ravines through a high bluff that overlooks the Grand River to the east and gently rolling open fields to the west. The campus is designed to take advantage of the area's scenic wooded ravines as well as its open meadowlands. Winding walkways between buildings connect with a series of natural trails along the riverbank. A 230-foot-long pedestrian bridge known as "Little Mac" spans a spectacular ravine to connect north and south campus. The majority of Grand Valley's academic and administrative buildings, living centers and dining halls, the main library and learning commons, and athletic and recreation facilities are located here.
Several Living-Learning Communities, included the Frederik Meijer Honors College, are also located in Allendale. These offer a shared learning experience and peer support system in one package.
The Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids campus is just 13 miles to the east and includes dedicated buildings for the Seidman College of Business, the Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering and Computing, the College of Education and Community Innovation, the university's public radio and television stations, as well as living centers and dining options. The Robert C. Pew campus is located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, close to employment and entertainment options.
