Muskegon Area Career Tech Center Class Designs and Builds Bowling Lanes for a Local Family
In the Bio-Tech and Engineering Class at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, a class project began like any other but quickly blossomed into a collaborative and inspirational experience for a local family and their son, Keegan.
Keegan’s mom, Annie, knew about her son’s passion for bowling. Keegan had asked his mom for his own bowling pinsetter, an automated machine that sets bowling pins back in their original positions and returns bowling balls back to the front of the alley, over and over. Through a friend at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, the Bio-Tech and Engineering Class jumped into action to make Keegan’s vision come to life!
The class was determined to make this project for Keegan. The students involved Keegan in every step of the process as they tweaked and redesigned the system ensuring it would work for Keegan and fit in his family’s basement.
In Spring 2023, the students and teachers installed the pinsetter and bowling lanes in Keegan’s house. The students personalized bowling pins, signs, and scoreboard cards and even procured bowling pin donations from a local bowling alley.
This experience was not just about bowling. Keegan was thrilled to work with the students, or as he called them, his “bowling buddies.” The students and teachers went above and beyond and thought outside of the box for a local family, giving Keegan and his family an experience they will never forget.
Keegan’s family is grateful to the students and teachers at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center for making Keegan’s life “that much better and definitely more fun” and for “making the world a better place.”
