Dr. Kimberly Carter

Dr. Kim Carter, Superintendent of Battle Creek Public Schools, holds degrees from the University of Memphis, Western Michigan University, the University of Michigan, Flint, and Alverno College. Her journey began in Kalamazoo Public Schools, where she served as a teacher, union president, and elementary principal, spearheading transformative initiatives that notably improved student achievement. Transitioning to a District Partnership Director role with Partners in School Innovation, she focused on enhancing education in struggling public schools. With over 25 years in public education, her unwavering focus on equity and inclusivity remains evident. Dr. Carter's collaborative leadership style drives systemic changes to ensure every child receives a quality education. Beyond her superintendent role, she actively contributes to several boards, including Big Brothers Big Sisters and The United Way of South Central Michigan, while holding key positions in educational organizations. Recognized for her dedication, Dr. Carter has received numerous accolades for her commitment to educational excellence and equity, inspiring communities across Michigan.


Gwen Garnett

Gwen Garnett

Gwendolyn Garnett is the EVP, Managing Director of the Center for Financial Advancement® at HomeFree-USA in Riverdale, MD, focusing on financial, leadership, and professional development training for Historically Black Colleges and Universities students. Formerly an executive at Bank of America, she led multicultural and low-to-moderate income lending sales, education, and counseling nationwide before retiring in 2006 after 24 years. Garnett, with an associate degree in Computer Programming from Spartanburg Technical College and Six Sigma Greenbelt certification, utilizes her extensive experience to support others' success.

Currently, she serves on the board of HomeFree-USA, chairs the St. Paul Baptist Church board of directors, and advises young professionals nationwide. As a founding member of Bank of America's Black Professionals Group in Charlotte, NC, she's also involved in various community organizations, including the Women’s Inter-Cultural Exchange. Garnett, recognized for her diversity work and mentoring, remains active in ministries at St. Paul Baptist Church, alongside pursuing her passions for travel and interior design in Charlotte, NC.


Wanda L. Everson-Gross

Wanda L. Everson-Gross directs the University System of Georgia’s (USG) African-American Male Initiative (AAMI), an integrated program offering academic, leadership, and life skills support across 25 campuses. With 40+ years of experience in corporate management, entrepreneurship, and higher education, including roles at Wayne County Community College and Morehouse School of Medicine, she's committed to youth empowerment. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, she co-founded the EMU Black Alumni Association, providing scholarships and mentoring. She established the Richard B. Gross Scholarship and holds certificates in International Education Diversity & Inclusion, Certified Nonprofit Professional, and Certified Suicide Prevention Trainer. Recognized with awards like the Spirit of Detroit Award and the Woman of Impact Award in Education, she's known for her strategic leadership, project management, and grant writing skills. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she serves as a National Arts & Letters Commissioner.
