Research Interests

My research interests focus on ecological restoration - the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed. Specifically, I evaluate the role of wildland fire in the restoration and maintenance of plant communities (e.g., reducing non-native species, increasing native species).  I have conducted restoration research in a variety of plant communities including wetlands, prairies, longleaf pine savanna, and western forests. My current research investigates how changes in prescribed fire season and order of application modify plant and soil dynamics in the prairies and savannas of West Michigan and Wisconsin.
