What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?

I am currently an Assistant Professor at OSU Marion. I work exclusively with undergrads in my research and I love mentoring students new to research and seeing their transition into independent scientists. I also find it very exciting to be able to have a significant impact on students careers and help them succeed in the classroom, in research, and after they graduate.

How did your GVSU Chemistry degree help you prepare for your position?

I served as a peer tutor and teaching assistant for extra discussion sections of General Chemistry while at GVSU. These experiences were crucial to discovering my passion for teaching, which heavily influenced the careers I pursued later. I was able to take a major role in undergraduate research while at GVSU, which was incredibly important to my acceptance to graduate school. If it wasn’t for my research mentor and his advice I would never have pursued grad school to begin with.
