Business & Management Career Community
Jamie Allen '14 & '15
1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
After graduating Undergrad, I made the decision to immediately
pursue Grad. After graduating Grad, I began my career in public
accounting as an External Auditor for Deloitte. I’ve since chosen to
stay within the public accounting realm of corporate America working
for a national CPA firm in order to gain relevant experience in a
wider range of accounting transactions than just audit (e.g.
acquisitions, mergers, IPO transactions, bankruptcy, forensic
accounting, etc).
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
Two notable memories are my first football game in the student
section and the Seidman College of Business Accounting Recruiting
event where I received significant exposure to professional
networking. However, there are so many more memorable experiences that
I could detail which have collectively helped to shape me and solidify
the type of person I want to be in the world.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
A piece of advice that has always stuck with me is to “climb
mountains so that you can see the world, not so the world can see you.
Do things genuinely from your heart for impact as opposed to applause,
credit, or recognition. Those things are considered short-term and
have a price, whereas impact is long-term and therefore has value.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Purposeful Challenging Grand
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to inspire, not impress. I would like for both my
accomplishments and life experiences to serve as tools in the success
of another individual by encouraging them to always believe in and
challenge themselves. I hope that any doors I open for myself will be
a door that can be held open for another to come through. Ultimately,
I want to give more than I take from the world and that is what I
would like my difference to be.
