1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
After completing my Master's thesis, I worked for both Michigan
State University and Van Andel Institute as a lab technician, doing
Parkinson's Research. Wanting to see research from "bench to
bedside" I then took a position working for the Congenital Heart
Center at HDVCH as a Clinical Research Specialist for about 5.5 years.
During COVID I transitioned to Research Administration at Spectrum
Health (now Corewell) to take on Research contracting and really see a
different side of research. I have also had the pleasure of serving as
a board member on the Institutional Review Board for about 5 years.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
I love how small my program was at the time. I made some great
friends with both students and faculty in my program. I never would
have had that experience at a larger university, and I truly believe
that set me up for success post-graduation!
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Positive feedback is great, but constructive criticism is what
will help you grow. Put your ego aside, and be open and eager to learn
and reflect on what you could do better.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Personalized, Challenging, and Fun!
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to encourage people to continue to question and push
clinical research further. There is so much to discover, and so many
opportunities to help people!
