What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?

My current position is Research and Development Director at CHT USA, a specialty chemicals and silicones manufacturer. It is an exciting place to work because we get to work on all aspects of product development and manufacturing. The R&D chemist and I work directly with customers to bring a new product from concept to commercialization, scaling up from a few hundred grams to tens of thousands of kilograms.

How did your GVSU Chemistry/Biochemistry degree help you prepare for your position?

First off, my GVSU chemistry degree prepared me excellently for graduate school. I took every advanced chemistry class that GVSU offered and connected with professors to do undergraduate research. I recommend that students take advantage of all the classes and great professors GVSU has to offer. With GVSU’s preparation, I had a great foundation in graduate school. Today I use my chemistry degree’s every day to troubleshoot problems, help design experiments and devise new products.
