1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
As a winter graduate, I began substitute teaching while also working at Beaumont Hospital in the Chemistry lab. Eventually, my work in the lab led me to find an amazing role as an educator within the IT department just as Electronic Medical Record technology was emerging. While educating physicians and nurses, I started building pieces of the EHR and eventually became a lead analyst, working on projects including telehealth and setting up a large COVID-19 vaccine clinic. I also married in 2005 and have 4 children ranging from high school to kindergarten age.

2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
1. I was given the opportunity to complete my teacher assisting in Stellenbosch, South Africa with a group of school of education students. We stayed with host families and also did some traveling for 6 weeks. It was the opportunity of a lifetime. 2. I was a junior during 9/11. Definitely not a favorite memory but also is a core memory. I was working at Afterhours in the bookstore at Kirkoff. We wheeled a TV over to see what was happening. Peter Jennings announced America was under attack. I was thankful to be among my peers while this information was unfolding.

3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Don’t compromise your values Also, I received a t-shirt from Epic Systems that says “Healthcare IT is more complex than rocket science.”

4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand Valley experience.
Growth, Eye-opening, and Challenging

5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to make a difference in patient care and health care as a whole. I am not a physician but I hope that my work helps physicians collect data they need get them closer to finding cures, understanding trends and overall providing the best patient experience.
