1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
I graduated from GVSC with a BS in Arts and Media. But then got a
job at MESC in Holland as a claims worker. We moved to NH in 1982. I
held various jobs but found my calling to be a teacher at 40 and went
back for my Masters in Elementary Ed. I worked 23 years in a K-8
school, teaching 6th grade Science, LA, and then developing a Gifted
and Talented/Enrichment program for the entire school! Every student -
from coded to advanced - participated. This was extraordinary and very fulfilling!
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
Learning to develop & print black and white film as well as
color - doing it the old-fashioned way. Professor Whitney Sevin was an
amazing teacher.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Actually there are 4 points to this advice: Always do Your Best,
Don't Take It Personally, Never Assume, and Make Your Speech
Impeccable. These have come in handy and have had long-term beneficial
effects. Also - letting things go, don't attach - that is all very freeing!
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Creative, Free-Spirited, Unconventional
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I'm already making it! Every day living what I think is
important. Being mindful of how each of my actions affect myself,
other people, animals and the world. Following my dreams! And my
newest venture - signing up to run as a state rep here in NH!
