1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
Since graduating from GVSU, I have been attending the University
of Notre Dame to complete a PhD in Biological Sciences. My
dissertation work focuses on the acquisition of invasive phenotypes in
early breast cancer progression. Outside of my academic pursuits, I've
continued dancing and have been involved in two great organizations at
UND: the Biology Graduate Student Organization and Expanding Your Horizons.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
I have so many great memories from Grand Valley. One of my
favorite memories is choreographing an intro-level hip-hop dance for
the GVSU Dance Troupe with my roommate/best friend. We had a lot of
fun working out the choreography together, tie-dying the group's
costumes, and getting to dance with a great group of people!
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
One of the best pieces of advice I've received is to be unabashed
in the way you work towards your goals. If it is something you want
badly enough, it's okay to look ridiculous because of the effort you
put towards that goal.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Exploratory, Engaging, and Community
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I would like to continue to push the expansion of the scientific
frontier so we can continue to better understand the world around us,
and I would like to contribute to the creation of a more equitable and
inclusive scientific community.
