Chemistry Alumni in Action
Kelsey Perry '16
What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?
My current position is as an instructor at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. I love my job because UCCS is a primarily undergraduate institution that is able to focus fully on undergraduates and a small number of masters students. This environment produces both faculty and students who have a shared goal of fully preparing students for success after receiving their degree. I love spending time helping students understand new content and advising them on potential next steps.
How did your GVSU Chemistry degree help you prepare for your position?
My GVSU biochemistry degree has been invaluable in helping me start in this teaching position as I learned all the majority of my base chemistry and biochemistry knowledge in the program. The degree also exposed me to some creative teaching methods and biochemistry labs that I’ve been able to model in my classroom and lab.
