1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
I've worked in institutions of higher education before finding my
home at PNC Bank. For most of my career, I've been a learning &
development professional, coordinating engagement, training, and
communication activities on large enterprise-wide initiatives. Last
year I was awarded PNCs Highest Honor, The Performance Award, which
recognizes the top .01% of employees annually.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
Snow days were very scarce back when I was in college, but there
was a winter where part of campus lost power in a blizzard. We played
games by candlelight, went sledding, and overall had a great time!
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Not to let other people's behavior/actions change who I am at my
core. Don't let other people decide who I am going to be and how I'm
going to show up. Even though I'm far from perfect, if I keep showing
up as "Sam," I'll never be disappointed in myself.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Maximize! Friendship. Fun.
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I would like to continue to mentor and educate students, sharing
my expertise and lessons learned. I want to help them understand that
90% of life successes are about the intentional habits we create in ourselves.
