1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
After graduating from Grand Valley in 2021, I started graduate
school at Northwestern University studying Speech, Language, &
Learning. It has been fun to explore the Chicago area and enjoy the
other side of Lake Michigan. I am currently completing a clinical
externship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in outpatient and
inpatient acute care settings, where I treat and assess communication
and swallowing disorders. I look forward to graduating with my
Master's degree in June 2023 and becoming a speech-language pathologist!
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
My favorite Grand Valley memory is when I first moved into
Hoobler Living Center during my freshman year. After all the parents
had left us, a group of students decided to toss a ball down the
hallway. I joined in, introduced myself, and was quickly welcomed into
their group. Since that moment, these were friends that became a
wonderful support group throughout my undergraduate career. They
chatted with me when I worked as a cashier at Kleiner Commons, clapped
during my University Singers' choir concerts, and hugged me when I
graduated. I am grateful that the friendships I formed literally on my
first day at Grand Valley have not only been a memorable part of my
undergraduate career but have continued past graduation!
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Be your own best advocate. You never know unless you ask!
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Memorable. Supportive. Home.
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to promote evidence-based practice, cultural humility, and
interprofessional collaboration within the field of speech pathology.
This will allow the field to continue to advance and discover the best
ways to treat and assess communication disorders.
