1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
I graduated with a degree that allowed me to teach middle school
and high school computers, software development, and math. My plan was
to get some real-world experience as a software developer and then get
back into secondary education. I'm now 13+ years into a career in
software engineering and still having a blast. Since graduating I've
held several roles in software development, ranging from support to
developer to scrum master and several forms of leadership along the
way. Today I work in a startup which allows me to use all of the
skills and experiences I've accumulated along the way, but I make a
point to use the skills I acquired as an aspiring teacher to ensure
I'm constantly building up the people around me.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
Hall hockey in Pew (sorry about all the noise everyone), all the
intramural sports, Relay for Life, and traveling down to Alabama to
watch Grand Valley win a national championship were all such
incredible memories. It's so hard to choose just one.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
If you're the smartest person in the room, it's time to find
another room.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Exciting, challenging, fun
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to make everyone around me better, regardless of the context
