1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
After graduation in December 2012, I worked at several different
organizations to get a better feel for what I would like to do
long-term and landed somewhere I never expected – in the architecture,
engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. I now have more than
eight years of marketing experience working for regional and national
construction management and architecture firms. In my current role at
GMB, I am responsible for creating content that aligns with GMB’s
vision to generate more for the world by working with communities to
equip students for lifelong learning. After a challenging start to
2018 following the unexpected death of my beloved husband, I am now
raising two kids near my hometown and embracing where the future will
take me.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
My capstone class with Professor Bulson was such a great class to
culminate my experience in health communications. He was very
knowledgeable and an overall great professor to have before graduation.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The key to juggling everything between professional and personal
life is being able to identify that some of the balls you have in the
air are made of glass and some are made of plastic. If you drop a
plastic ball, it will bounce back and you can recover it, but if it is
a glass ball it will shatter if you drop it. This analogy helps me
prioritize what I need to get done on any given day and also gives
myself some grace when the plastic balls are dropped.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Well-rounded, exploratory, stimulating
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
As a writer and storyteller, it is fun and challenging to create
content that is engaging, educational, and authentic. I would love to
continue writing stories of the real difference-makers in the world
and make that information accessible and inspiring for all.
