GVSU Winter 2025 Career & Internship Fair - Employer Information

Career Communities and the GVSU Career & Internship Fair

As part of the employer registration, you are asked to select two career communities that best align with your current hiring needs. This information is helpful and is used in the following ways:

  • A list of employers by Career Community is shared with candidates before the fair on the GVSU Career Center website.
    • These listings include links to the employer Handshake profile page. Students use this information as part of their preparation for the fair so they arrive ready to talk with you!
  • Career Communities are listed in the on-site student packet as a way to help candidates determine which employers offer opportunities that align with their career interests.
  • A list of employers by Career Community is provided as a handout at the fair for candidates.

What are Career Communities?

Career Communities are a way for students to connect with faculty, career advisors, employers, and other students specific to their selected community. Career Communities provide information, opportunities for exploration, and connections related to the area of interest. We know that the world of work is not always a direct connection from major to job - career communities are a great way to connect with resources, events, and communication directly related to the industries students are interested in.

GVSU has six Career Communities:

  • Business & Management (includes Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Tourism Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sports Management and more)
  • Communication & The Arts (includes Advertising/Public Relations, Art & Design, Broadcasting, Communication Studies, Film & Video, Photography, Writing and more)
  • Education (includes Area Studies, Education, Modern & Classical Languages, and more)
  • Healthcare (includes Allied Health Science, Athletic Training, Audiology, Biomedical Sciences, Dietetics, Nursing, Public Health, Sonography and more)
  • Human & Public Service (includes Criminal Justice, Environmental Studies, History, Legal Studies, Political Science, Public/Non-Profit, Social Work, Anthropology, and more)
  • STEM (includes Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, Occupational Safety & Health, Physics, and more).
