PHY 370 - Solid State Physics
A first course on the physics of solids. Topics may include crystal structure and x-ray diffraction; lattice vibrations and phonons; free electron Fermi gas; energy bands; properties of metals, semiconductors, and insulators; superconductivity; magnetism and magnetic materials. Offered winter semester of odd-numbered years. Prerequisites: PHY 302 and MTH 302 or MTH 304.
