Badge in Data Mining Fundamentals

The School of Computing's data mining fundamentals badge (not a degree or certificate) is designed to prepare students to accomplish tasks such as:

  • Assess the most important models, methods, and concepts used in data mining and knowledge discovery in the life sciences
  • Evaluate data mining software used in bioinformatics and medicine.
  • Apply algorithms for biomedical data mining and biosequence analysis, including statistics, database search programs, multiple alignment methods, motifs, hidden Markov models, and sequence clustering and classification.
  • Formulate database queries to the most common databases in the field.

Admission

Completion of a bachelor's degree and evidence of basic object-oriented programming skills are required for admission.

Program Location

The badge is offered on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus in downtown Grand Rapids, MI.

The badge comprises one course (three credits).
