Master of Science in Applied Computer Science
Requirements for the M.S. in Applied Computer Science
All candidates for the degree must complete a total of 33 credits, including the following:
- Core courses (9 credits)
- Badge courses (6 to 9 credits)
- Electives (9 to 15 credits)
- Capstone (3 or 6 credits)
Core Courses
Students are required to complete one course in three of the following areas for a total of nine credits:
1. Data Engineering
- CIS 660 - Information Management and Science (3 credits)
- CIS 673 - Principles of Database Design (3 credits)
2. Management of Systems Development
3. Software Engineering
- CIS 518 - Secure Software Engineering (3 credits)
- CIS 612 - Requirements Specification (3 credits)
- CIS 613 - Software Testing (3 credits)
- CIS 622 - Software Design Methodologies (3 credits)
4. Networking
Badge Courses
All candidates are required to complete one of the following badges:
- Badge in Biomedical Informatics
- Badge in Cybersecurity
- Badge in Database Management
- Badge in Distributed Computing
- Badge in Information Systems Management
- Badge in Software Design and Development
- Badge in Software Engineering
- Badge in Web and Mobile Computing
Elective Courses
Any 500- or 600-level CIS course can be used as an elective toward the M.S. - ACS degree.
Capstone
Each candidate must complete either the three-credit project course, or the six-credit thesis sequence. Please contact the graduate program director one semester prior to starting any of these.
