Master of Science in Applied Computer Science

Requirements for the M.S. in Applied Computer Science

All candidates for the degree must complete a total of 33 credits, including the following:

  • Core courses (9 credits)
  • Badge courses (6 to 9 credits)
  • Electives (9 to 15 credits)
  • Capstone (3 or 6 credits)

Core Courses

Students are required to complete one course in three of the following areas for a total of nine credits:

1. Data Engineering

2. Management of Systems Development

3. Software Engineering

4. Networking

Badge Courses

All candidates are required to complete one of the following badges:

  1. Badge in Biomedical Informatics
  2. Badge in Cybersecurity
  3. Badge in Database Management
  4. Badge in Distributed Computing
  5. Badge in Information Systems Management
  6. Badge in Software Design and Development
  7. Badge in Software Engineering
  8. Badge in Web and Mobile Computing

Elective Courses

Any 500- or 600-level CIS course can be used as an elective toward the M.S. - ACS degree except for CIS 500, CIS 511, and CIS 512.

Capstone

Each candidate must complete either the three-credit project course, or the six-credit thesis sequence. Please contact the graduate program director one semester prior to starting any of these.
