Film and Video Production Minor
Website: www.gvsu.edu/filmvideo
The film and video production minor provides students with the skills necessary to communicate ideas using digital video and audio production equipment and techniques. Basic and intermediate courses include hands-on practice and techniques in both fiction and nonfiction modes of production, as well as historical and cultural exploration. Advanced courses within this minor focus on documentary and client-based productions, as these areas best complement the skill sets of most disciplines and other major programs. Film and video production for documentary projects leads students to observe, interpret, and communicate about meaningful issues affecting a broad audience for the purposes of education, social awareness, social justice, or advocacy. Client-based filmmaking affords students the opportunity to create films for real-world clients and considers specific messaging to an identified demographic. All of the fiction and nonfiction techniques within this minor require critical thinking and a strong foundation of video and audio production skills. The film and video production minor is intended to complement all major programs. It is designed to build skills in the following areas: film, video, and audio technology; media literacy; collaboration; communication; fiction and nonfiction storytelling; research; and creativity.
