Minor in Applied Communication
Students minoring in applied communication learn the practical skills and principles needed for successful communication across specialized contexts and settings. This minor focuses on social dynamics and the application of communication concepts. Students must complete 21 credit hours of course work to earn the minor, including nine credits of required courses and 12 credits of electives.
All students completing this minor are required to complete three (9 credit hours) of the following:
- COM 201 - Speech (3 credits)
- COM 202 - Critical Interpretation (3 credits)
- COM 301 - Interpersonal Communication (3 credits)
- COM 302 - Small Group Communication (3 credits)
Students will select four of the following electives (12 credit hours):
- BUS 201 - Legal Environment for Business (3 credits)
- CAP 210 - Fundamentals of Advertising (3 credits)
- CAP 220 - Fundamentals of Public Relations (3 credits)
- JBM 390 - Technical Writing (3 credits)
- COM 209 - Health Communication Systems (3 credits)
- COM 210 - Nonverbal Communication (3 credits)
- COM 378 - Intercultural Communication (3 credits)
- COM 438 - Communication Ethics (3 credits)
