Designation and Criteria

To be considered for the Community-Based Learning (CBL) designation, faculty must generate a CBL designation proposal in the SAIL system, identifying the four components of a CBL course as listed in the criteria below:

1. Community engagement: Identify the partner(s) that students in this CBL course section will directly interact and engage with? Please include evidence of communication with the community partner.

2. Application and integration: Explain how students will engage with issues relevant to the community partner(s). Describe how students will apply theory and practice throughout this CBL experience.

3. Reciprocity: Using examples, describe how this CBL course offers value to the community partner(s), students and, if applicable, the instructor.

4. Reflection: Identify and explain how students will utilize guided reflection for their learning and growth throughout this CBL experience.
