BS Chemistry
Overview
The BS in Chemistry covers content in all five areas of Chemistry: Organic, Inorganic, Analytical, Physical and Biochemistry. Students studying chemistry learn both theory and lab techniques and are trained in the use of research-grade instrumentation. Students in this major have the option of working in a research lab with professors investigating a wide variety of chemical challenges including the synthesis of new molecules, environmental testing, the analysis of chemical reaction mechanisms, and using computers to investigate the structure and reactivity of compounds.
Future prospects
A BS in Chemistry gives students a large number of options in many growing career areas. Many students with this degree find high-paying jobs in a wide-variety of fields with a strong presence in Michigan including the automotive, pharmaceutical, environmental and food industries. This degree also provides great preparation for further study in Chemistry at the graduate level for a future career in research.
