Overview

The BS in Chemistry - Education combines rigorous training in all of the sub-disciplines of chemistry with classroom teaching theory and practice through the School of Education.  If interested, students in this major have the option of working who professors who specialize in Chemical Education research to investigate how students learn science, how to assess achievement, and develop new methods of teaching.

Future prospects

There is a shortage of qualified teachers in Michigan, and the problem is only expected to grow.  There is a particularly strong need for math and science teachers, including those who can teach Chemistry.  The BS in Chemistry - Education degree is designed to help students gain the science content knowledge and teaching skills to fill this need.
