Intern stories
Mitchell Goerge, Grand River Aseptic Manufacturing
What projects did you take part in during your internship?
My summer at GRAM was spent with the Tech Transfer Project Management Team, managing timelines and deliverables for a variety of pharmaceutical companies. Many of my day-to-day tasks included helping to lead both internal and external meetings to ensure milestones were on track, and working with a variety of departments and SMEs (subject matter experts) to accomplish said milestones so finished pharmaceutical product could be distributed to patients. It was extremely eye opening to work with teams of talented chemists and biochemists from around the world. Many of my internal projects involved streamlining various project processes and updating job aids and software tools, and I was able to work with a variety of chemists and chemical engineers to implement these updates in a way that was beneficial for all parties involved.
How did you get the internship?
I initially learned about the company at the GVSU career fair, and followed up with their HR department to discuss potential roles. I applied and interviewed in early April, but I recommend starting the process much earlier. This process involved an interview with HR and the Project Management team, which involved combing through my resume and identifying applicable skills, and discussing my goals and ideas of what the internship would look like. Having Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and the ability to learn on the fly were crucial skills for this more non-traditional chemistry internship role.
